Gabriele Library: How to Use Interlibrary Loan

Guide to Using Interlibrary Loan

For the most part, requesting interlibrary loans is pretty straightforward. If the database does not have the article, you will see a request button similar to the two images below.

There is one step you need to take before requesting through that link. Check for the article in our entire catalog. Type in the article name and do a search. If no results are found you are able to request through interlibrary loan. Once you click on the link in the original article page, it will fill in all of the necessary information except when you need it by and a phone number.

You can also manually enter an Interlibrary Loan Request. This is helpful if you have found your resource through the reference list in an article or book. After you verify it is not in our catalog as discussed above, you can manually input the required information.

How long does it take to receive my request?

Digital content (e-books, journal articles): These materials are often received within 2 business days, but can take up to 10 business days.

Physical materials: These materials generally take between 10-14 business days to receive, so please plan accordingly if you need physical materials due to the time constraints.

How do I receive my request?

Digital content (e-books, journal articles): You will be sent a notification to your Immaculata email. In the ILL portal, ensure that you download/print the article.

Physical materials: These will be held behind the circulation desk. You'll receive an email when the material is ready to be picked up.

How long do I have access to the materials?

Digital content (e-books, journal articles): Digital content has either a time limit (normally 30 days) or amount of times you are able to open it. If you do not save the material you will not be able to access it after you've met those conditions. However, if you download or print the content it is yours to continue to use indefinitely.

Physical materials: Due dates are set by the loaning library and will be listed when you pick up the materials. You are able to renew the materials if needed and if the loaning library approves the renewal.
